Preparing yourself for freelancing

If you have done all the things discussed in this book so far, you are getting close to working with real clients. Your first engagement is close at hand. Before you do this, now is a chance to take a breath and make sure you are prepared, both practically and psychologically, for what you are about to do.

Do you remember starting a race when you were a child? Everyone would shout excitedly as the race was about to begin: ‘Get ready . . . Get steady . . . Go’. We were all waiting to hear the word ‘Go’ shouted out. But as sprinters know, getting ready and being steady before a race are very important. So, before we go, I’m going to take a short pause and think about getting ready.
