Frugality is a hot trend since the economic downturn began in late 2007 and remains equally cool during the long financial recovery. Evidence of this trend is visible in popular television programming, such as Extreme Couponing¹ and Extreme Cheapskates,² and various books and magazine articles. The basic theme of this frugality movement is that with careful spending, an individual or family can live well and still stay within their budget, and perhaps put away some money in a savings account.
