My love for philanthropy as a black fundraiser

I can still remember the first time I held a cheque for one million dollars in my hand.

As a young fundraiser making less than five percent of this cheque a year, I couldn’t begin to imagine what. this amount of wealth meant. Yet here I was, holding a piece of paper as light as a feather with enormous power to change lives, even the lives of those of us in the headquarters. Thinking back now about how this gift was secured through a simple coffee conversation is alluring for me. I too wanted to talk to wealth, see what this sector of philanthropy was about and how it could effect change.
