Charitable bequest giving is a significant source of income for many nonprofit organizations. In the USA, charitable bequest giving generated over $28bn, exceeding all giving by corporations. Many large charitable organizations in the UK receive more than half of their charitable giving through bequest gifts. Despite this magnitude, the potential for such giving is dramatically larger. Roughly 70 to 80% of the US population engages in current charitable giving, but fewer than 6% leave charitable bequests at death.
