Lampworking, also called flameworking, is the craft and art of using fire to create beads, sculptures, and more from melted glass. You’ll be working with a torch and an open flame, so this is definitely a “hot” glass technique! Glass beads have been made using this technique for a very long time. In fact, glass beads were used as currency in several parts of the world hundreds of years ago. Recent technical developments, particularly in torches and lampworking kilns, give us more control and (when done correctly) make our beads stronger.
