When contracting with the Department of Defense (DOD), the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) dictates what provisions and clauses are flowed down from the government to the prime contractor. The prime contractor is the contractor who contracts directly with a government department or procurement activity. The prime contractor must likewise flow-down specific provisions and clauses to their subcontractors. These provisions and clauses found in FAR Subpart 52.2 are categorized as (1) required, (2) required when applicable, and (3) optional.
