A1.1 Introduction

Fortunately in the real world of business management it is still the ideas and solutions, not models, that matter. However, it occurred to us that a book dealing with the practical ideas of implementing tools and techniques towards achieving improved quality and operational excellence would be incomplete without the most popular management models. The models do not offer solutions to quality problems, but they help to assess a ‘big picture’ and often reduce the complexities involved.
