RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIORAL THERAPY AND ALBERT ELLIS

Rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT) is similar to CBT but stresses humanistic principles, including the importance of offering the client unconditional positive regard, and strives for more long-term changes in behavior through desensitization, positive reinforcement, and working directly on emotions. In reality, many of the irrational thought patterns that Beck and Ellis presented as bases for dysfunction are very similar (Peltier, 2001). However, Ellis concentrated more on what can be termed absolutist thinking and used a somewhat broader approach in his treatment (Ellis & Dryden, 1997).
