Psychotherapist Bonnie Badenoch (2008) offers a brain-based perspective on the effects of mindful reflection. There is a shift, she argues, from “top-down” to “bottom-up” processing. Top-down processing engages the layers of the brain, which contain ideas about what will happen next based on past experience.
