CHAPTER 13Humanity and a Thriving Culture

Everything we have discussed thus far has been related to the universal needs of employees. We call these the universal needs of employee engagement and happiness and they are related to the human condition. This chapter discusses some of the most serious symptoms and challenges we see organizations face when these needs are not met.

These needs surface as organizational challenges in many different forms. Humanity and culture is constantly shifting and changing. Recall that happiness is a social factor, so solving serious issues like mental health and dismantling systemic racism are things we need to do together.

As social beings, what impacts those around us impacts all of us. You can choose to ignore them, but eventually they will impact you. When a colleague faces racism or sexual harassment, that is a problem not just for that individual but for all of us.
