You can’t envision your future without understanding your past, and you can’t know where you’re going without knowing where you’ve been. So let’s look back on the four stages of the practice of medicine that, over many centuries, brought us to our current state of disruption. We’ll see that each stage has been generally characterized by good, well-meaning people doing the very best they could with the information available to them at the time.
