Health and the “Bottom” Line
IT WAS A HOT DAY in Orlando, Florida, and I was in my swimsuit. But instead of lounging by the pool, I was sitting, somewhat self-consciously, in an instrument called the BOD POD®. This large, white, egg-shaped machine bears a strong resemblance to Robin Williams’s spaceship in the sitcom Mork & Mindy. The physiologist operating the machine asked me to sit as still as possible and breathe normally, which was a little difficult to do because I’m slightly claustrophobic and the egg didn’t have a lot of wiggle room on the inside.
