I think it is helpful to think of where relationships are in terms of cycles or development. My leadership team has pulsated over the fifteen years that I have been in charge. When employee participation was the rage, the “team” grew quite large, really a committee at one point, so that everyone had a say. In retrospect I am not sure I really worked with those people well, mostly because I didn’t know what they knew or what to rely on them for. Even in that larger team context I still only listened to certain people I trusted.
