Introduction
At the end of this book, it is appropriate to return to the questions raised at the beginning. In the first chapter the question was asked how CEOs drive performance and innovation, and it was argued that both individual characteristics and leadership behaviour contribute to the impact that CEOs have. The majority of studies on the role of the CEO have been quantitative and have linked CEO characteristics and leadership styles to measures of firm innovation.
