All a twitter: celebrities and social networking

In 2008 I signed up to twitter as a research exercise for this book. I wanted to try a range of different online social networks in order to work out how they functioned and what their purpose was. I signed up, posted a few tweets, added a couple of my friends, but found the whole process a bit lonely as I felt that I was microblogging to no one in particular. So I left my fledgling twitter account and went back to Facebook, where according to my friend count, I was quite popular.
