ZOOM THROW. The SB-900 goes to 200mm. You know how, on the back of the SB-800, you push the multi-selector to go from the little trees to the big trees, and you zoom to 105mm? Well, the big trees just got bigger.
The ability to control and shape the output of a small hot shoe flash unit is a big deal. It means you get a longer throw, more concentration of light, and perhaps a bit more of a defined edge between highlights and shadows. I told the folks at Nikon that they should do something jazzy to announce that you can zoom an SB-900 all the way to 200mm—maybe program the unit to go off like a Vegas slot machine ...
