10 From the Top Down: Other Input to the Protocol Stack–The SIS Data Services
In Chapters 4 through 9 we journeyed down the main trail of the IBOC protocol stack. Coded audio (entering from above the stack) percolates down the stack, as Program Service Data (PSD) marries with its flow toward the physical layer at the bottom. In addition to the PSD text information, structural information about the transmission, and forward error protection information also meld with the Audio information as it progresses into Layers 2 and 1. This chapter focuses on the first of two other data inputs to the NRSC-5 protocol stack.
