Over the course of the next few chapters, we will cover the types of modules that can be constructed using the IDA SDK. Whether you ever intend to create your own plug-ins or not, a basic understanding of plug-ins will greatly enhance your experience using IDA, since, arguably, the majority of third-party software developed for use with IDA is distributed in the form of plug-ins. In this chapter, we begin the exploration of IDA modules by discussing the purpose of IDA plug-ins, along with how to build, install, and configure them.
