Abstract
The operation of the electronic ballast design using insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) for compact fluorescent bulbs is described. Various circuit topologies for electronic ballasts for compact fluorescent lamps are provided. Power factor correction circuits using IGBTs are described. The application of IGBTs for flash and strobe lights is discussed. Its use in driving xenon arc lamps for automobiles and movie projectors is described. The application of IGBTs to rapid thermal annealing processes is provided.
