You Cannot Ask for a White Coffee
A pendulum is always going to settle in the center; but not, if you keep swinging it.
I was working with a client in New York City when one of the workshop participants came up to speak with me. He was British and told me, when he first arrived from the UK, he asked for a white coffee only to be pulled aside by one of his U.S.-based fellow managers who said, “You cannot ask for a white coffee here as that will be considered racism.” Needless to say, the British manager was dumbfounded and shared with me that he thought the United States had gone PC crazy. If he was Australian, he might have asked for a long black.
