Case Study 4: Contamination in Shipping Drums

A manufacturer of chemical products received complaints from customers that blue specks were being found in the product. Contamination from blue specks can occur when product is shipped in a blue plastic drum without a liner. The customers were offered the option to switch to drums with liners or drums made from fiber. Most customers did switch, but one larger customer continued to request product in blue drums without a liner. The manufacturer formed a team to resolve the quality problem with the blue drums.
