Virginia Woolf
Virginia Woolf (1882–1941) was born in London and was the daughter of Leslie Stephen, a distinguished literary man. She grew up in a large and talented family, educating herself in her father’s magnificent library, and meeting many eminent men of letters. Later she settled with her sister and two brothers in Bloomsbury, which became a meeting ground for several brilliant, artistic and literary people, together referred to as the ‘Bloomsbury Group’. One of these was Leonard Woolf, whom Virginia married, and with whom she founded a printing venture called Hogarth Press.
