Sometimes people get a career idea in their heads and then pursue the idea without understanding if it is right for them. Although a career counselor could put you through an assessment tool meant to tell you what areas would be best for you, a cheaper – and perhaps more effective – assessment can be made by asking your friends and colleagues the type of work they think you should be doing. Thinking about questions like ‘what five jobs do you think fit my skills and personality?’ can give you ideas and perhaps start interesting conversations.
