Vinton Cerf is one of the inventors of TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) around 1978, which was based on his Ph.D. advisor Leonard Kleinrock’s packet-switching theory published in 1961. TCP/IP became the required protocol of ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network) in 1983.
