The high-definition television period

When, in January 1935, Lord Selsdon’s Television Commission made their report to Government, it was concluded that the only way a fair determination of which television system should succeed in providing a regular service for the British public, was if both were tested over the coming year. Both Baird Television and Marconi-EMI now geared themselves up for the coming battle which would determine who should finally achieve the goal of a regular high-definition television service, due to commence no later than 31 December 1936.
