Through the years, I’ve hauled various laptops on vacations and business trips, and although the computers have gotten smaller and lighter over time, carrying one and its assorted peripherals still takes up a lot of space and weight. In contrast, the slim size and weight of the iPad (especially the iPad mini) makes it an ideal traveling companion. As a photographer, you probably already carry a fair amount of gear.
