Journalism is under attack today as almost never before in our history. The business model that has sustained journalism since the early 19th century is sputtering. We have been subject to a deliberate campaign to discredit the news media and undermine the very meaning of “fact.”
Recently, journalists have been the target of a Tweetstorm of scorn from a president who routinely uses the epithet “the dishonest media.” He has denounced individual reporters and news organizations by name. At his rallies, crowds turned against the penned-in reporters, shouting threats and insults.
