We are coming to a fork in the road. Depending on the choices we make, we can either continue to improve our condition, as we have over the past several centuries, or fall prey to a backlash that halts or reverses our progress. Those choices will be determined to a large extent by movement narratives.
Some of the most influential movements in the world today are driven by threat-based narratives that reinforce our fears and polarize us. Consider, for example, the Brexit movement in England and the movement to “build the wall” in the United States to deal with the “threat” of illegal immigrants.
