Abstract Elements
The class tree diagram also indicates which elements are abstract elements (shown in dotted boxes). You cannot create an abstract element directly in a KML file. Abstract elements are an efficient way for the underlying Earth browser code to create complex elements that have a number of elements in common. Each abstract element is a substitution group. For example, any element derived from the <Geometry> abstract element can be substituted for any other element derived from <Geometry>. The derived elements have special uses, but their general usage is the same for siblings of the same ancestor in the tree.
