At this point you’ve managed to build a basic knowledge work factory. That’s a profound achievement. It provides critically important key performance indicators (KPIs) that quantitatively measure the productivity of organizations and even individual employees. That capability alone is light-years ahead of virtually all other knowledge work organizations, and most importantly, your competitors. Astonishingly, it’s even ahead of many conventional manufacturers: nearly 10 percent of all U.S. manufacturers maintain no key performance indicators.1
