Memberships and Boards

There will be professional memberships that you can and should be a part of as a business owner. As a freelance interpreter, I was always a member of the RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf), the NAD (National Association of the Deaf), and NAJIT (National Association of Judicial Interpreters and Translators). Once I started the business, I still belonged, but now on an organizational membership level. Professional memberships had a very different meaning when I was a freelance interpreter. They offered professional development, sanctioned my CEUs, and offered conferences and networking in a field where we often work in isolation.
