Eighty million new cars sold every year amount to an incredible $1,500 billion. This number is the result of the labor of the 14 largest automotive manufacturers, the so-called original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), a group of more than 50 brands, all of them household names for us, including Volkswagen, Toyota, Daimler, General Motors, Ford, Fiat, Chrysler, Honda, BMW, Nissan, Hyundai, Peugeot, Renault, and Kia.1
