Shirley already had Adam’s daily files laid out on her desk when he arrived at eleven o’clock on Monday morning. She smiled, but she was tense. It had not been easy to make some of the calls to board members on short notice, especially when she had to be so vague about the purpose of the meetings.
“Beth can do lunch,” she traced her fingers down the paper calendar she printed out each morning, as Adam thumbed through the files. “You have to be back in time, of course, for the webcast at two o’clock.
