Get to know your team
As outlined in Step One of this book, you must get to know your team or peers in a way that is meaningful and not just transactional. To do this well, you need to spend time with each individual and collectively as a team. Only when you begin to build some meaningful relationships with those around you can you begin to assess people’s motivational values. This will also help you gather valuable knowledge on their normal temperament so that you can spot any diversions away from this baseline. This takes time.
