Be authentic

Too often we lose ourselves in our ‘adaptive’ self. This is the self which is shaped by the expectations, the ‘shoulds’ and the structures of the things we do and the roles we play. However, if you also engage with your authentic self, not only will this give you a sense of wholeness, but achieving that blend between your work role and your life may enhance your leadership professionally, and your impact personally. A strong ‘adaptive self’ is a common issue which arises with my coaching clients – they have spent so long within a role professionally (or socially, e.g. ‘parent’) they are not always sure who they are, and on top of that worry what others will say should they suddenly do something perceived to be ‘out of character’. ...
