Today when you are recruited as a senior executive, it is very rare that you are hired just to maintain the status quo. Instead, you typically are recruited to help your company achieve the next level of performance or to adapt to a changing business environment. This generally will require you to help the C-suite shape strategy and drive the execution of the strategy to deliver the next level of performance. The functional skills and expertise that originally got you to the C-suite may simply not be enough to keep you there.
