One of the biggest challenges of coaching is communicating information in a motivating manner, and the Pipeline model greatly facilitates this goal. It's sometimes very difficult to get through to people—even highly intelligent, successful managers—and get them to change their values, add new skills, and adjust the way they spend their time. The pipeline is motivational from both a carrot and a stick perspective. In terms of the latter, it shocks them into realizing they're not operating at the right leadership level (given their position). In terms of the former, it's very specific in delineating the behaviors and attitudes they need to demonstrate to achieve specific career goals.
