The sensors used in this book so far have been components that plug into the Arduino board with jumper wire connections. But there are many sensors and controllers that attach onto the Arduino board, called shields, such that they lay up against the Arduino board. Electronic and power connections are made to a shield by the headers on the Arduino board. The use of shields is introduced in this chapter, including incorporation into LEGO projects.
