The governance of lesson learning

You can have the best technology, all the roles in place, processes defined as part of your work process, but that doesn’t mean lessons will be learned. You can have the best system in the world for lesson learning, it won’t necessarily be used. You need actually to embed the habits of learning and applying lessons into the culture and working practices of the organisation in such a way that it is sustained. Remember that the second biggest barrier quoted in the survey described in Chapter 1 was the lack of support from senior management. This lack of support results in lack of motivation, prioritisation and governance, even if there is no lack of process, technology or roles.
