INTRODUCTION

In management terms, it’s decision making that separates those managers who are destined for great things from middle managers. The reason good decision makers are successful senior managers is because they consider problems in their entirety, not just one aspect of them. Too often, managers look at issues from their own professional background. This myopathy reduces their effectiveness as a decision maker and they end up making sub-optimal decisions because of their bias. You need to avoid this trap if you are to progress in your career and/or become a better decision maker.
