Nathan had been a successful individual contributor and was promoted to leadership. Although he doubted his skills, he was leading people doing work like he had done, so he felt he was doing fairly well. Senior leaders thought he was doing better than that—they promoted him again. Now he finds himself leading people in three countries doing work he’s never done.
