Chapter 11. This Is Not a Pipe

The bits-to-atoms revolution is bringing machines able to create real objects into our homes. These machines take minutes or hours to print a three-dimensional model, turning a file on a computer into something physical we can touch with our hands. The techniques used to create objects are many: we can deposit material, dig chunks out of blocks, and create molds to be filled or forms on which materials are laid. We can create these objects by ourselves or with a community, and we can share them, download them from the Internet, modify them, and create them in our homes. It’s all about turning bits into atoms.
