SPEECHWRITING TIPS

When you begin to refine your freewriting or freespeaking, you should be aware of some tricks of the speechwriting trade that will help your final draft read well. What follows are just a few basic tips that might help you:

1.   Use Simple Words. Don’t try to impress your audience with how many long words you know. The objective of effective communication is to convey your thoughts as clearly as you can; so, avoid the temptation.

Stuffy:

When a populace purloins, restitution must be added.

Clear:

When people steal, they must repay.

2.   Use Concrete Language. Avoid fuzzy or hazy generalizations. Instead, paint a clear picture for the audience. Remember that the picture you create in words is the only one they will “see.” ...
