One of the most widely used techniques to get ideas on paper quickly and effortlessly is called freewriting. Like its name suggests, freewriting relies on a relaxed, “free” mind, much like the state of mind you may have when writing a letter to a trusted friend.

When you freewrite, don’t worry about the mechanics of writing—just the ideas. This way, you won’t get bogged down in the details of grammar, punctuation, and spelling while producing an initial draft. The technique is quite simple: just put pen to paper and write as if you are telling a story.
