DISCOVERING CONNECTIONS

Connections are as important in writing as they are in thinking. In Chapter 2 we looked at connections in the thinking stages of writing. Your mind constantly makes connections or associations: someone on the train reminds you of cousin Ed; a billboard advertising skin lotion shows a mountain scene, and you think of your trip to Vail last year. Your brain makes connections all the time, and through these connections you construct and view the world. It’s the new connections you make between ideas that give life and vitality to your writing.
