Georgi Lozanov, a Bulgarian professor of psychiatry and psychotherapy, came up with the concept through research in foreign language training. He used music, visuals, and other materials that would stimulate the senses. Lozanov found that when he involved the senses in the training regimen, the retention rate went up dramatically.
