INTRODUCTION

In this chapter we will review the quantification of image quality, as carried out by imaging scientists, designers and engineers, who are concerned with the design, implementation and manufacturing of imaging systems.

The quantification of image quality is often related to a number of image quality attributes, also referred to as image quality dimensions, which contribute to the overall impression of the quality of images.
