It’s All About Hormones
In a recent photography class, one of the members of the class questioned why she responded strongly to a particular moment while she felt indifferent to another scene, even though the latter, by all measures, was more enticing and visually appealing. She experienced a “charge” of energy when making certain photographs and not others. I responded, somewhat insensitively to this middle-aged woman, with the statement, “it’s all about hormones.” She was offended for a moment, and I shrank in my chair until I could fully explain myself.
