Chance occurrences, technical mistakes, and spontaneous, unplanned discoveries are all part of photography’s enchantment. Every photographer I know credits providence, or accident, as the source of some of their enduring images.
Serendipity does not arise on its own; it builds on the back of our serious efforts. To be sure, sometimes accidents happen. But more frequently, we pave the way for providential images through conscious work over long periods of time. We prime the pump of discovery by seeding the unconscious and the intuition through intention, considerable thought, and a good working ethos.
