Common Boot Loaders
Most modern OSs ship with a boot loader that's capable, at the very least, of selecting between DOS or Windows 9x and the OS with which the boot loader comes. Many of these boot loaders are capable of booting a wide variety of additional OSs. In addition, a variety of freeware, shareware, and commercial programs add extra features to the mix, such as fancier selection screens and the capability to select from among several OSs installed in a single partition. Although I can't provide information on all these boot loaders here, this section provides information on some of the more common and capable boot loaders. Table 4.1 summarizes much of this information.
